Napoli signs Victor Osimhen from Lille
Napoli has secured the signature of Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen from Lille in a deal worth €50m. His signing has put endless transfer speculation that linked the Lille hitman to a host of top European teams, including Liverpool and Arsenal.
Osimhen enjoyed a spectacular 2019/20 season with the French club, Lille. He scored an impressive 18 goals in 38 appearances. Osimhen is also capped 10 times for Nigeria Super Eagles scoring four goals.
Victor started his career European career with Wolfsburg in 2017. After a disappointing and injuring ravaged spell, he moved to the Belgian side, Sporting Charleroi on loan from Wolfsburg. He will go on to have an impressive career in Belgium scoring 36 goals in 37 games. His series of impressive performances forced Charleroi to sign him on a permanent deal.
Lille acquired Osimhen in July 2019. He will go on to win the Best African Player in Ligue 1. He scored 13 goals in the league becoming Lille top scorer in the process. There are huge expectations on him with this move.
The Serie A side has a history of producing a number of illustrious attackers such as Maradona, Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain. He will be hoping to make the right impact needed to take the Italian side back to their perch. They are currently in seventh place in the league and will go to the Europa League due to their Coppa Italia win.
The fee is a club record for Napoli. Osimhen is now the most expensive Nigeria player too. He pens a five-year contract with the Genaro Gattuso’s managed outfit.
